11+ Potential Assessment: Prior to enrolling to preparation classes, parents often ask me to comment upon the likelihood of their child reaching a Grammar School standard of work or indeed, Senior Independent School standard.
In the past, I have offered an opinion informed only by recent school attainment such as QCA Assessments. I am now able to offer a one-off assessment of 11+ potential. This is a norm-referenced assessment suite of computerized psychometric sub-tests, lasting approximately one hour and which will enable me to measure selected abilities and aptitudes using:
- Reasoning and logic puzzles: relevant to Maths and Verbal Reasoning ( VR ) papers
- Reading/working vocabulary: relevant to English and VR papers
- Spelling: relevant to English and VR papers
- Short-term visual memory and auditory-verbal sequential memory: relevant to Maths, English and VR papers
- Coding and decoding multi-syllable words using phonological processing: relevant to VR and English papers
My report, which will follow the test, will include a full statement of results: actual scores and centile scores (the position your child has reached in a particular test, compared with a national sample) and age equivalents to include spelling and reading ages.
Using my experience as a Head of Department in a West Country Grammar School, these results, together with your child’s school attainment in Literacy (English) and Numeracy (Maths) will enable me to discuss with you, the statistical probability of your child being able to reach Grammar School standard in Year 6.
Based near Colchester in Essex, I am able to offer 11-plus potential assessment for children hoping to attend grammar schools in Colchester and Chelmsford.
